Cycling in Piedmont: History, Wine and Truffle

Day 1 – Arrival in Turin

Welcome to Turin, Italy’s first capital city (1861) and one of the most elegant destinations in Northern Italy. Today, Turin is a vibrant hub of innovation, art, and culture. Stroll through its baroque streets, discover architectural masterpieces, and visit highlights such as the famous Egyptian Museum, world-class galleries, and lively cafés where you can taste traditional Piedmontese cuisine.

Day 2 – Cycling from Turin to Pinerolo (51 km)

After breakfast, your cycling holiday in Piedmont begins with a scenic ride along the Po River, following peaceful bike paths and quiet countryside roads. Your first stop is the stunning Stupinigi Hunting Palace, a UNESCO jewel and royal residence of the Savoy family designed by architect Filippo Juvarra. Continuing through green parks and rural landscapes, you’ll reach Pinerolo, a charming medieval town once renowned for its historic cavalry schools.

Day 3 – From Pinerolo to Saluzzo via Cavour (46 km)

Enjoy a gentle ride through orchards and vineyards as you cycle deeper into the Piedmont countryside. Along the way, stop in Cavour to admire its unique “Rocca,” a morainic hill now protected as a Special Nature Reserve. The day ends in Saluzzo, a beautifully preserved medieval town famous for its fruit production, especially kiwi exported worldwide.

Day 4 – Saluzzo to Bra or Cherasco (63–69 km)

Today’s stage offers an easy to moderate cycling route, with a few gentle climbs after Fossano. Along the way, you can visit the impressive castles of Manta and Costigliole, explore Fossano’s historic center, and discover the ancient Roman town of Bene Vagienna with its fascinating archaeological remains. Your destination is either Cherasco or Bra, the birthplace of the international Slow Food movement.

Day 5 – Langhe Cycling: Barolo Wine Roads to Alba (39–61 km)

Today you’ll ride into the heart of the Langhe, one of Italy’s most celebrated wine regions and a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. Your first stop is Pollenzo, home to the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Take time to enjoy a glass of local wine before continuing toward Alba along the Tanaro River. Expect a mostly flat ride with some scenic climbs near Barolo. Sportier cyclists can choose an alternative loop through La Morra and Grinzane. Overnight in Alba, world-famous for white truffles and its medieval tower houses.

Day 6 – Alba to Asti through Roero Hills (45–55 km)

This cycling stage is dedicated to the Roero area, offering both shorter and longer route options. Pedal past rolling hills, vineyards, and historic castles such as Guarene and Cisterna, which also hosts a traditional farming museum. The day ends in Asti, a historic town known for its sparkling wine, elegant architecture, and the famous Palio horse race.

Day 7 – Asti to Terruggia across Monferrato (52 km)

Cycle through the enchanting Monferrato hills, a landscape of vineyards, small villages, and panoramic views. You’ll pass through Moncalvo, one of Italy’s smallest towns, before arriving at your hotel in Terruggia, nestled among the hills. Relax by the outdoor pool or extend your ride with an optional visit to Casale Monferrato (+14 km round trip). Today’s route is moderately challenging but highly rewarding.

Day 8 – Tour Ends in Terruggia

After breakfast, your cycling tour in Piedmont comes to an end in Terruggia. If you are returning to Turin, an optional private minibus transfer is available. Alternatively, the hotel can arrange a private taxi to Casale Monferrato, where you can easily catch a train onward.
